What do we do?

The Mining Association is presided by a full-time board of five students. The association distinguishes itself through the extraordinary involvement of all its members. Throughout the year there are many activities. The main goals of the association are to promote the study, create ties between the students, alumni and companies and to allow for personal development. The association has 550 student members and 1150 so-called ‘extraordinary members’ (alumni and staff members).

Company presentations and workshops

Every year, the MV organizes the Company Presentations. Companies from the fields of Applied Earth Sciences visit the faculty at the TU Delft and give presentations for the students during the lunch break or after classes. The presentations are followed by a social event, such as a buffet, lunch or drinks, to allow for informal contact with the students. The Company Presentations are usually held in December.

On-Campus interviews

Since the past years, the MV also offers the possibility for having on-campus interviews. The board arranges the facilities, promotion and registration. The on-campus interviews have proven to be a great success and in the past two years, more than half of the students have chosen their job through this activity.

Symposium and Lustrum Activities

Once every five years, the MV organizes a ‘Lustrum’, a week-long event to celebrate the association’s five-year anniversary. An International Symposium is the most important part of the lustrum week, together with a gala, a reunion dinner for alumni, excursions, a sports tournament and an open party.

Every 2,5 years after the Lustrum, a Half Lustrum is organized. At the very least, this week contains an International Symposium, a gala and a reunion dinner of the same caliber as the lustrum. The 25th Lustrum took place in November 2017 and it was a great succes!


The MV has 550 members and 1150 alumni all over the world. Every three months, the magazine ‘Natural Resource’ is published and sent to all the members. Once every year a Yearbook is published. As of June 2009, the MV has a new website where students, alumni and faculty staff members are kept up to date on activities, addresses and other information.


Lectures are organized by the MV as an afternoon programme or a lunch programme. Subjects that are discussed during such a lecture include current affairs, non-technical aspects of the field of study, or interesting historical subjects. Contact the board for the possibilities of having such a lecture for your company.


The MV organizes several excursions. The most career-relevant excursions are the Second Years’ Excursion and the BSc study trip.  During these excursions, BSc students do a tour of companies relevant to the various Master’s tracks. A lot of the students base their choice of a Master’s track within Applied Earth Sciences on these experiences. In addition, the board organizes the Cultural Excursion, during which the students have the opportunity to look at the historical and cultural aspects of the Mining and Petroleum industry The Cultural Excursion is interspersed with a Culturally.
